The postponement of The Islands of Guernsey’s annual Spring Walking Festival has not stopped the islands’ expert walking guides from imparting their local knowledge and passion for their home’s stunning natural landscapes.

Seven of Guernsey’s accredited walking guides are creating films of their favourite walks to offer a virtual taster of the walking festival, which will be streamed on VisitGuernsey.com on Saturday 23 May.

With almost 30 miles of beautiful coastline, rural inland, diverse wildlife and an historic harbour capital, Guernsey has much to offer walkers of all abilities, from challenging clifftop hikes to gentle strolls through towns and villages. Expert walking guides offer themed guided walks during the annual Spring and Autumn Walking Festivals, enabling visitors to learn about the island’s colourful history, native flora and fauna, cultural heroes and local folklore.

Starting at 10:00 on 23 May, VisitGuernsey will stream short clips of the guides’ favourite walks around the island, each themed to their area of expertise, and offering a snapshot of different parts of the island. Each film will cover a particular topic of interest and section of the island in order to showcase the diversity of Guernsey’s natural and cultural heritage, and the breadth of the island’s walking product. Viewers can tune in throughout the day for free to bring snippets of the island’s beautiful surroundings into their own homes.

Gold accredited guide Gill Girard will kick the day off with a tour of the Little Chapel – said to be the smallest chapel in the world and one of Guernsey’s most popular visitor attractions. Her colleagues will then follow with snippets of walks themed around the Occupation of the island during WWII, its medieval history, as well as exploring the island’s best coastal and countryside spots. Other films will look at how the island inspired French Impressionist artist Renoir and writer Victor Hugo, who both spent significant time on the island creating some of their most respected pieces of work.
