From tomorrow, Gulaba, a well-known tourist spot located on the Manali-Rohtang Pass road, will be opened for public. In December 2022, this road was closed after heavy snowfall. So far, tourists were permitted to travel till Kothi however, majority of them liked to go to Sissu and Solang Nullah by crossing the Atal Tunnel, as Kothi didn’t experience snow.

Raman Sharma, Manali SDM, said that yesterday, a joint review along with the local DSP was conducted and for vehicular movement, the road till Gulaba was found to be protected. Also, parking lots didn’t have snow. He mentioned that he had suggested the government to permit tourists to travel till Gulaba. But, the vehicular movement would depend upon the conditions of weather.

A joint team, on April 10th 2022, of the Kullu police, district administration, and the Manali Municipal Committee had conducted a survey to make a decision whether the vehicles of tourists could be permitted till Gulaba beyond Kothi. The tourist hotspot Marhi was opened on April 15th by the administration. It’s located between Manali and the Rohtang Pass. However, in 2023, as less snowfall was witnessed here, Marhi and the Rohtang Pass are hoped to be opened for tourists very soon.

The Border Roads Organisation on March 10th, kick-started snow clearing process and reinstate the mighty 13,058 feet-high Rohtang Pass. Nevertheless, it’s yet to initiate removing snow from the Manali side beyond Gulaba.
