Haryana sees several opportunities for craft alliance exchange with north-eastern states that are rich in culture and live with eco-sustainability, said Heritage and Tourism Minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar.

Gujjar and top Tourism Department officials are visiting Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram as part of a research tour programme organised by Haryana Tourism Corp. Ltd. He told reporters in Guwahati that stalls from these states were the centre of attention at the Surajkund International Crafts Festival in Faridabad.

He went on to say that past governments have always monopolised the development of particular states, but that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, inclusive development of all states is being secured without prejudice.

He stated with great pleasure that the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) of the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER) is willing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the exchange of culture and craft alliance with the Surajkund Mela Authority.

Gujjar stated that this cultural exchange effort will boost state tourism while also providing direct and indirect job possibilities to the youth of these states.

He met the craftsmen and obtained information about their livelihood while visiting the NEHHDC Ltd. headquarters in Guwahati.

Brig R K Singh (Retd.), Managing Director of NEHHDC, stated that this alliance will serve as a model for other states.
