Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to declare the ‘Heal in India’ initiative on the 75th Independence Day this year. This initiative aims promoting medical tourism in India. It will feature distinct desks at 10 airports, a multi-lingual portal and streamlined visa rules for all global passengers, who are coming to India for medical reasons.
The ‘Heal in India’ inventiveness aims to place India as a worldwide hub for medical and wellness tourism.
The Union Health Ministry is on the final stage of the arrangement that is expected to be inaugurated this month. The Health Ministry is supervising the different features and procedures for the comfort of patients from abroad.
The Indian government has listed 44 countries from where a huge amount of people visit India for medical commitments. These include Latin American, African, SAARC and Gulf countries.
There would be facility of translators, special desks, multi-lingual portal and easy visa rules in ten specific airports, i.e. Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Hyderabad Visakhapatnam and Guwahati. These cities have been selected since they witness higher influx of patients from these 44 countries.
As per estimates, in 2020 fiscal year, the medical tourism market was valued at USD 6 billion. By 2026, it is predictable to more than double and touch USD 13 billion.The Health Ministry, joining hands with the National Health Authority, has created a multi-lingual portal as a one-stop shop for facilities delivered by medical tourism organizers and hospitals with an interface for overseas patients.
