Heavy snowfall in northern and central France slows tourism Heavy and wet snow across northern and central France leads to travel delays, potential power cuts and business closures.

Many communities across northern and central France will be affected by heavy snowfall. In some cases, the rainfall may begin only to change to snow as the night progresses.

The residents waking up on Tuesday morning from Nantes to Paris may awake to a covering of snow.

It is reported that the heaviest snow will likely fall across northwestern France. The communities such as Nantes, Le Mans and Tours are expected to see snow continue through the day on Tuesday and into Tuesday night.

Here in this inclement weather, travelling will become dangerous across these areas as snow covers roadways and causes slippery conditions.

As much as 15 cm (6 inches) of snow may accumulate by the time snow winds down on later on Tuesday night or early on Wednesday.

The heavy snow could cause schools and some businesses to close. Due to the heavy snow and wet nature, there could be isolated power cuts in northwest France as tree branches fall on power lines. Even as snow winds down, travel conditions may still be slick through much of the day on Wednesday. Away from the heaviest snow in northwest France, cities such as Paris, Reims and Bourges, may see enough snow on Monday night to cause delays and closures on Tuesday. Charles-De-Gaulle International Airport in Paris could contain significant flight delays on Tuesday as deicing may be needed. The rail and bus services could be delayed as well. In Paris, the rain can mix with the snow helping to keep accumulations lower. Despite this, 2-8 cm (1-3 inches) of snow is expected. The greatest accumulation will be found on non-paved surfaces such as grass and on cars. Although the snow will come to an end by the middle of the week, low temperatures will remain across the country into the second half of the week. The snowfall accumulates in northwest France could remain on the ground for several days.
