Of late, the municipality has got rid of Hezbollah slogans along with billboards and images that for several years were up on the road to Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport.

With welcome signs, these have been removed by the Tourism Ministry to salute the visitors and expatriates entering Lebanon to enjoy their summer vacation.

For many years, the pictures Hezbollah leaders and party members had occupied the space to the airport road on both sides and in the median strip.

The airport road boundaries the neighbourhoods where the offices of Hezbollah and the Amal Movement existed along with their security zones.

On both sides of the road, the sizes of the pictures surpassed that of the houses and small shops. One could see images of the members of the Iranian and Iraqi military, religious and political leaders as well like Ayatollah Khomeini, Qassem Soleimani, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis and Ali Khamenei as well. These pictures were displayed in such a way that many who had crossed this road got confused as to whether these people were part of Lebanon or Iran.

Politicians who were in opposition to Hezbollah had often urged for the removal of these images. They had often described those as provocative to the Lebanese.

The state was made responsible for its compromise with the party or its incapability to tackle its management, significantly exhibiting on the route taken by political figures coming to Lebanon.
