Ever since Himachal Pradesh has eased restrictions related to travel, the state has been experiencing a huge surge in visitor numbers. Lately, Director General of Police, Sanjau Kundu, said that a record number of 18500 tourists have been coming to Himachal Pradesh on an everyday basis, whereas 7500 tourists have been visiting the tourist hotspot Atal Tunnel Rohtang (ATR).

He also mentioned that the police have effectively tackled this challenging situation posed by huge number of incoming tourists in the middle of COVID-19.

He also added that they have never seen this kind of rush among tourists in Himachal Pradesh. Considering the current situation poised by immense tourist footfall in the region, the Chief Minister of HP, Jairam Thakur, has said that tourists cannot be stopped from coming to the state; however, regulations have been put into place.

According to an official, the Chief Minister, has demanded financial support for the construction of the proposed airport at Nagchala in Mandi district. He has also talked with the PM in regard to strengthening road connectivity in Himachal.

Also, the Chief Minister has observed that the HP Police is encountering two main problems from the tourist inflow; one is breaking of COVID rules and the other is tourists getting violent with the locals. He informed that the entire police force is on ground, and additional personnel have been deployed at all the main hotspots and inter-state borders to check vehicles at random to make sure no one is carrying weapons or flouting COVID rules.
