A special bus known as Tokyo na Kaba (hippopotamus in Tokyo) is offering tourists spectacular views from the sea off the Odaiba district in the capital.
The Odaiba waterfront district would be utilized for the triathlon and open water swimming events in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Like the triathathletes, the bus runs on land and ‘swims’.
Its passengers would be able to view the commercial facilities in Odaiba while the bus moves on land.
After the vehicle enters Tokyo Bay tourists aboard the bus can see the Rainbow Bridge and other landmarks through the windows. The unique service was started by Fuji Kyuko Company on 27th November.
Tokyo no Kaba was designed by Eiji Mitooka, an industrial designer in the image of a hippopotamus as the animal lives on both land and in water as per the officials of Fuji Kyuko.
Another company also offers an amphibious bus service around Odaiba.
Tokyo na Kaba departs from the bus stop area of the Aqua City Odaiba commercial complex on seven round trips daily except Wednesdays, when the bus service is not available.
