Hong Kong to Allow Non-Residents to Enter the City from May

Hong Kong will allow non-residents to enter the financial hub from May after more than two years. This is a small step toward relaxing rigorous corona virus restrictions which have made the city one of the world’s most inaccessible places.

Hong Kong’s rules for airlines carrying infected COVID-19 patients will also be somewhat relieved. A prohibition on individual airline routes will be reduced to five days from 7. Foreign travelers will need to abide by the same procedure like the residents.

Hong Kong’s borders were shut down since early 2020 with very few flights and long quarantine periods for arrivals.
Most flights in Hong Kong currently are from mainland China and a few other Asian cities.

Eleven flight routes were barred this week from airlines including Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Qantas, and KLM, with more than 70 flights banned so far this year.

Hong Kong has followed mainland China in applying a “dynamic zero” corona virus policy for controlling all outbreaks.
Hong Kong has reopened gyms, beauty parlors, theme parks and cinemas for the first time in more than four months.
