Recently, Hong Kong said that it is thinking to give away 500,000 airline tickets to international visitors for propelling its COVID-ravaged tourism industry.

Hong Kong had implemented some of the most hard-hitting quarantine rules in the world, adhering to China’s ‘zero-Covid’ policies. However, the city declared last month that people coming to the city do not require to hotel quarantine or provide a negative COVID test prior to boarding a flight to Hong Kong.

A spokesperson from the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), confirmed news about giving away half a million airline tickets to residents and worldwide visitors for promoting tourism.

In 2020, AAHK bought about 500,000 air tickets beforehand from the territory’s home-based airlines as part of an assistance package for supporting the aviation trade. The spokesperson added that the buying helps regarding adding fluidity into the airline’s upfront. The tickets will be given away to global visitors and residents of Hong Kong in the market revival drive.

More details would be declared shortly by the tourism board of Hong Kong once significant arrangements are made with the airlines.

The Executive Director of Hong Kong Tourism Board Dang Cheng said that the free tickets that were purchased during the pandemic will be given away next year to inbound and outbound travelers by Hong Kong’s airport authority.
