Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich sets new standards. Due to its extremely high performance in practising environmental protection, the Munich grand hotel was the first Kempinski hotel worldwide to receive the coveted gold certification of the EarthCheck Certified programme. The environmental achievements range from the consistent use of goods and products from the regional market, to the avoidance of “chemical clubs” in cleaning agents, to – increasingly important – more energy-efficient building services, in some cases things that are not always visible to the guest. For meeting the requirements of the renowned EarthCheck sustainability certification, ten Kempinski Group hotels have so far been awarded silver and 17 hotels bronze.

“To achieve the high standard, we closely monitor the environmental and social impacts of our hotel operations including energy and water consumption, carbon footprint, waste generation and engagement with the city,” says Holger Schroth, Managing Director of Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich. “The economic aspects include employment conditions, support for the local economy or the use of fair trade goods and services. I am very pleased to see that our environmentally friendly commitment has been rewarded and that we have thus been able to minimise our ecological, as well as social footprint decisively.”

Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski shines through its use of green electricity, meticulous waste separation and sensitisation of all employees to the topic of environmental protection. During the renovation of the rooms, the requirements for energy and climate protection were already taken into account and implemented during the planning phase. Facade insulation, heat-insulating windows, LED lighting, air-conditioning and ventilation systems with heat recovery, as well as an intelligent in-room energy management system that recognises whether the guest is in the room and then switches off or reduces the lighting and air-conditioning, complete the comprehensive measures.

The use of high-quality materials with a long service life and installed by regional companies also contribute to a positive ecological balance. Since May 2012, two bee colonies have been living on the hotel roof to produce the hotel’s own honey.

Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich, which today has 305 rooms and suites, was planned and built by the Bavarian King Maximilian II. Following the example of his father Ludwig I, he wanted to create an urban monument for himself and commissioned the design and construction of Maximilianstrasse as Munich’s most beautiful boulevard, which was to house the “noblest hotel on the square”. Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski is a royal hotel that combines the splendour of past eras with modern demands. With great sensitivity, the hotel has been adapted again and again to the changing wishes of guests without neglecting its significant past.
