Alicante’s tourism soared to new heights in 2024 with thriving coastlines, record-breaking global appeal, and unmatched success in coastal and inland destinations.
The tourism sector in Alicante province concluded 2024 on a high note, maintaining strong activity levels seen throughout most of the year.
On the Costa Blanca, New Year’s Eve occupancy rates surpassed 80%, a figure that was warmly welcomed by local businesses. Although slightly below last year’s performance—when New Year’s Day fell on a Monday—the results were still noteworthy. Inland accommodations also fared well, with occupancy rates reaching 74%, outpacing the national average by nine points.
Mayte García, general secretary of Hosbec, the hotel association, emphasized that coastal areas achieved an average occupancy rate of 80%, with some destinations exceeding this benchmark. She credited the sector’s stability to visitor loyalty and ongoing efforts by establishments to enhance their services and activities.
Demand extended beyond coastal areas, as inland destinations also experienced robust year-end tourism. Surveys conducted by Turisme Comunitat Valenciana highlighted strong performance in these regions, bolstered by positive feedback from specialized organizations.
Across the Valencian Community, coastal occupancy mirrored last year’s 75% rate, while inland areas reported only a minimal decline of one percentage point. Valencia city itself achieved an impressive 64% occupancy rate.
Marián Cano, the Regional Minister for Innovation, Industry, Trade, and Tourism, expressed appreciation for the sector’s dedication to promoting sustainable, high-quality, and diverse offerings. She credited these efforts with reinforcing the region’s appeal as a top travel destination.
Record-Breaking Tourism Numbers in 2024
The Regional Minister hailed 2024 as a historic year for the Valencian Community, achieving unprecedented tourism milestones. In the first ten months alone, over 10 million international visitors arrived, representing a 16.3% increase. These tourists contributed more than €13 billion to the region’s economy, marking an impressive 23.1% year-on-year growth.
Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport also saw remarkable progress, recording significant increases in passenger traffic throughout 2024. Its emergence as a key cargo hub further solidifies its role as one of Spain’s fastest-growing airports.
