At the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025, one of the Middle East’s most prominent travel industry events, Etihad Airways and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) took center stage with the announcement of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) that is set to redefine UAE–Thailand travel ties. The agreement reflects Etihad’s growing commitment to delivering extraordinary global travel experiences and Thailand’s vision to position itself as a year-round, world-class tourism destination.
This partnership is not merely a ceremonial gesture. It represents a strategic alignment of aviation capacity, marketing prowess, and destination branding—an initiative expected to deliver measurable growth in inbound tourism to Thailand while expanding Etihad’s network influence in Southeast Asia.

Signed in the presence of travel industry leaders, the MoC outlines a framework of joint promotional campaigns, destination marketing, and route support between the two organizations. Both parties will coordinate to highlight Thailand’s wellness tourism, cultural heritage, culinary experiences, and natural attractions to the UAE and Etihad’s wider global audience.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, called Thailand “a very important market,” underlining that this MoC not only reflects growing market demand but supports Etihad’s broader expansion into Asia.
“This agreement will help further strengthen our relationship with the Kingdom of Thailand and Etihad’s position in the market,” said Neves. “It reinforces our commitment to deliver extraordinary travel experiences.”
Central to this cooperation is Etihad’s expanded route network into Thailand. The airline will launch two new services—Krabi and Chiang Mai—beginning October and November 2025, respectively. These new routes add to Etihad’s existing services to Bangkok and Phuket, turning Thailand into one of the most connected Southeast Asian countries in the carrier’s portfolio.
These additions diversify Thailand’s entry points and decongest high-traffic airports like Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok, while also driving regional economic growth in secondary Thai cities.
The UAE is already one of Thailand’s fastest-growing source markets from the Middle East. In 2024, visitor numbers from the UAE increased by over 20%, fueled by rising interest in wellness retreats, cultural exploration, and luxury hospitality. With direct, efficient air access now expanded to four destinations, Thailand is poised to become an even more attractive vacation and business travel option for UAE residents and global transit passengers through Abu Dhabi.
The cooperation is expected to:
For Thailand, this partnership opens the door to broader exposure across Etihad’s network of over 70 international destinations, including Europe, North America, the Indian Subcontinent, and the Middle East.
Speaking on behalf of Thailand’s tourism authority, Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool stressed the strategic significance of the collaboration.
“With Etihad’s extensive network and world-class service, this collaboration will inspire more travellers to explore the rich culture, natural beauty, and wellness offerings of Thailand,” she said. “Together, we aim to deliver unforgettable experiences and reinforce Thailand’s appeal as a year-round destination for international visitors.”
This emphasis on year-round tourism is essential. Thailand is working to break out of the perception of being only a winter sun destination. With diverse climates across regions—from Chiang Mai’s cool mountain air to Krabi’s lush monsoon season—the country is marketing its seasonal versatility to appeal to global travelers.
By unveiling this MoC at ATM 2025, both Etihad and TAT maximized their reach among industry leaders, travel buyers, influencers, and media. The agreement is part of a broader trend at ATM 2025, where airlines, tourism boards, and private stakeholders are increasingly forming destination-driven partnerships to boost international travel recovery and competitiveness.
Etihad’s approach aligns with global trends toward:
With Southeast Asia reasserting its dominance as a top long-haul region, the UAE’s strategic proximity and aviation leadership position it as a gateway for outbound travelers from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Thailand is just one part of Etihad’s 2025 expansion roadmap, which includes 16 new destinations across Asia, Europe, and Africa. The airline has been repositioning itself as a modern, agile, and culturally connected carrier, seeking not only to grow its footprint but also to forge meaningful alliances that enhance the customer journey.
From route announcements to upgraded cabin experiences, Etihad is reshaping its global offering while leveraging partnerships like the one with Thailand to generate sustainable tourism value.
