On Wednesday, Himachal hoteliers and tourism stakeholders requested the state government to take back its decision that they will impose a new tax on tourist vehicles that are registered outside HP, urging that this tax related move will crush the sector which is under tremendous stress already due to the severe
natural calamities it faced in the last several months.
Mohinder Seth, president of the Association, said that the new tax if imposed on tourist buses and tempo travellers by the transport department will devastate the tourism and hotel industry of HP and create enormous losses to the stakeholders.
He has urged the state government to roll back the tax for the existence of tourism and relevant industries.
On September 6 th , the Deputy Chief Minister, HP, Mr. Mukesh Agnihotri, declared that luxury buses from September 1 st that are registered in other states but running in Himachal Pradesh with no permission would be charged Rs 5,000 per day.
But, for one month, the buses that are running in the industrial belt of Baddi-Barotiwala- Nalagarh would be excused, said Agnihotri, who also manages the transport department.
He had added that there are around 200-250 such buses in HP and this decision is targeted to generate additional revenue of Rs 10 crores.
