About 20,000 passengers on board four cruise lines on previously scheduled ships to dock in Galveston in Texas might be postponed into the next week, as per the news media. Three of the cruise ships are Carnival cruise lines and the fourth belongs to Royal Caribbean.
Hurricane Harvey has strengthened to a category 3 storm on Friday afternoon before its anticipated landfall late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
Christine de la Huerta who is the official spokesperson of Carnival said in its statement to one of the news agencies that two Carnival cruise vessels were previously scheduled to dock in Galveston on Saturday but now they have decided to stop in New Orleans.
She said that guests wishing to terminate their cruise at that point of time and disembark in New Orleans are welcome to do so.
But then, given the serenity and projected pathway of this violent storm as well as its potential challenges guests might encounter trying to head back to Galveston independently, they would like to suggest they continue to remain on board the cruise ships.
The third Carnival vessel would be docking in Cozumel in Mexico and head to Galveston on Saturday according to the news of the media.
Royal Caribbean is yet to respond to a request for comment on this issue.
