Iberia to operate 140 weekly flights to the US

Iberia is set to significantly enhance its global flight network for the summer 2025 season, increasing connectivity between Spain and the United States, Latin America, and Europe.

The Spanish flag carrier will operate 140 weekly flights to the U.S., a 14% increase from 2024, supported by its fleet expansion with the Airbus A321XLR, designed for long-haul efficiency.

According to Spain’s Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda, aviation growth is crucial for maintaining the country’s status as a top global travel hub. Iberia’s expansion aligns with national goals to strengthen Spain’s international air connectivity while improving sustainability through fuel-efficient aircraft.

Iberia’s Expanded US Operations

The United States remains a key market for Iberia, with its weekly flights increasing to 140, offering 1.1 million seats for travellers flying between Spain and the U.S. Iberia’s summer 2025 U.S. flight schedule includes:

• New York (JFK) – 2 daily flights
• Chicago (ORD) – 1 daily flight
• Miami (MIA) – 2 daily flights
• Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) – 1 daily flight
• Los Angeles (LAX) – 1 daily flight
• San Francisco (SFO) – 3 weekly flights
• Boston (BOS) – Increased to 2 daily flights from June
• Washington, D.C. (IAD) – Increased from 4 to 7 weekly flights

Boston and Washington, D.C. will see the highest capacity increases, supported by the introduction of the A321XLR, which allows for improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions, in line with EU Sustainable Aviation goals.

Latin America: Strengthening the Leading Market Position

Iberia continues to dominate the Latin American market, operating flights to 18 destinations across 16 countries.

The airline will offer 3.2 million seats for Europe-Latin America routes, a 4% increase from 2024.

Key route expansions include:

• Buenos Aires – 21 weekly flights (3 daily)
• São Paulo – 14 weekly flights (2 daily)
• Lima – 14 weekly flights (2 daily, starting May 2025)
• Santiago de Chile – 10 weekly flights, increasing to 11 in June
• Rio de Janeiro – 5 weekly flights
• Caracas – 3-5 weekly flights, depending on demand
• Guayaquil – 3 weekly flights

Flights to Mexico City and Bogotá will continue with triple-daily service, while Montevideo and Quito will maintain daily connections. The airline will also sustain its Central American and Caribbean presence, with daily flights to Costa Rica, Guatemala, San Salvador, Santo Domingo, and Puerto Rico.

Asia and Middle East Growth

Iberia will continue its recently launched Tokyo route, operating three weekly flights on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The service, introduced in October 2024, has already achieved a 90% occupancy rate, reinforcing Spain’s growing travel demand to Asia.

Additionally, flights to Doha, Qatar, will be maintained with:

• One daily Iberia-operated flight
• Two additional codeshare flights with Qatar Airways

This setup ensures three daily connections between Madrid and Doha, enabling seamless transfers to Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Oceania, in line with the European Commission’s air transport agreements.

European Network Expansion and Seasonal Routes

Iberia will reinforce European connectivity with increased frequencies on key routes:

• Paris (CDG) – 11 daily flights (+4 from 2024)
• Rome (FCO) – 6-7 daily flights, boosted for Jubilee Year 2025
• Brussels & Vienna – 4 daily flights each (+2 weekly)

Popular seasonal destinations returning in summer 2025 include:

• Azores (Ponta Delgada) – 3 weekly flights (from June 7)
• Funchal & Faro – Up to 5 weekly flights
• Tirana (Albania) – 3 weekly flights (from June 7)
• Ljubljana (Slovenia) – 2 weekly flights (from July 27)
• Greek Islands – Santorini & Mykonos (5-6 weekly), Corfu (7 weekly in August)
• Athens – 30 weekly flights (+3 from 2024)
• Croatia – Dubrovnik (17 weekly), Zagreb (9 weekly), Split (9 weekly)

According to Spain’s Secretariat of State for Tourism, improving air connectivity within Europe is essential for boosting intra-European tourism and economic integration.
