Leading hospitality company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) recently announced that it will be signing a management agreement with Shanghai 21st Century Hotel Co., Ltd. for its iconic property located in Lujiazui, Shanghai, China. The hotel would be officially branded as Regent Shanghai Pudong on May 16 and open its doors to guests on the same day.
Guests will be provided with a unique and luxury experience similar to what the brand is recognised for. All existing reservations will be automatically forwarded and honored by Regent Shanghai Pudong. Guests will be able to experience the seamless luxury and intuitive service brought by Regent without any hindrance. According to the deal, IHG will also take over the management of the hotel’s luxury apartments, situated right above the same tower.
It was back in March 2018 that announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Regent Hotels & Resorts. This would not only expand IHG’s luxury footprint but also bring the brand into the top end of its portfolio. Ever since the announcement, IHG began working to combine its expertise in luxury with Regent’s deep heritage and revered legacy with immediate effect. The Regent brand has been re-launched by IHG and has been evolved to appeal to the modern luxury traveler.
Justin Channe, Managing Director, Regent Hotels & Resorts, IHG said in a press statement that welcoming Regent Shanghai Pudong to the Regent family represents a significant milestone for the brand not only in Greater China but also in the world. He shared that IHG has been committed to making the brand a real leader within luxury hospitality ever since the acquisition. He mentioned that it also aims to take the properties to the world’s best destinations. He shared that the group is excited to collaborate with Shanghai 21st Century Hotel Co., Ltd., to bring Regent to Shanghai in such a prime location. He added that the group is looking forward to work closely with the owner to proudly bring Regent hallmarks to life in the hotel.
The Regent Shanghai Pudong is located amidst the magnificent skyline of the Lujiazui financial district. It also becomes the very first Regent hotel opened globally after the acquisition by InterContinental Hotels Group. The action will also take the hotel back to its roots as it first opened its doors as a Regent property in 1980. Renovation to rebrand InterContinental Hong Kong into a Regent hotel in 2021 has already commenced. The brand is also expecting new openings in Phu Quoc, Vietnam later this year, Other properties in Bali, Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as well as Chengdu, China are expected to open in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
