In 2021, Tennessee tourism generated $24.2 billion travel spending

In 2021, the tourism industry of Tennessee, generated $24.2 billion in domestic and international travel spending, as pointed out by the recently published financial impact data from U.S. Travel Association and Tourism Economics. Also, in Tennessee’s history, it pinpoints the largest visitor spending nationally. On a per day basis, travelers in Tennessee spend an estimated $66 million. In Tennessee, travel generated $1.9 billion in state and local tax revenue. Also, travel is the third largest employer in the state.


Bill Lee, Tennessee Governor and Mark Ezell, Department of Tourist Development Commissioner, emphasized the initiations to continue the strong revival of the industry.


Gov. Lee said that tourism propels financial development and generates job opportunities so that every Tennessean can flourish. Lee added that their decision to give importance to strong recovery has yielded record levels of growth in tourism and they carry on welcoming visitors to see all Tennessee has to offer them, starting right from the Mississippi River to the Great Smoky Mountains.


Mark Ezell, Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, said that Tennessee is crushing it with the largest visitor spending national market share for Tennesseans in the entire history of the state.
