In 2022, Cambodia is anticipated to draw one million foreign tourists.
It would be much higher than 2021’s 200,000, said the Tourism Minister on Thursday.
In the first half of 2022, the Southeast Asian country welcomed around 510,000 foreign visitors. It was up 394 percent compared to the same time 2021.
He also said that to the kingdom of Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand were the largest sources of tourists, as per the reports of a news agency.
Khon said that on the basis of this figure, they anticipate in 2022, they’ll draw around one million foreign tourists. If it happens, it would be up to two million in 2023.
The minister also stated that tourism is one of four pillars that supports the economy of the kingdom like anything and in 2026, is predicted to reach its pre- level.
The kingdom, in the pre-pandemic times of 2019, had greeted almost 6.6 million foreign tourists. It generated 4.92 billion US dollars in revenue.
The Prime Minister, Hun Sen, while speaking at the closing ceremony explained that in the whole ASEAN countries, the kingdom was among the first countries that had reopened its borders and made travel restrictions easier and seamless for foreign travellers.
He said that they have reopened the country and they don’t think it will shut down it once again as the vaccination rate is high in the kingdom and herd immunity is well achieved.
