In 2022, Dubai welcomed 674,000 medical tourists. They had spent Dh992 million. It was an increase of Dh262 million from the year before.


Of all the medical tourists, thirty-nine per cent who came to the emirates in 2022 were from the countries in Asia as 22 per cent were from Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Almost 21 per cent came from GCC and Arab countries, the Dubai Health Authority confirmed on the same.


The Director General of the DHS, Awadh Al Ketbi, said that the ability of Dubai to offer high-quality care to the patient-centred medical facilities has perked up its growth as a regional and international health care destination in Arab.


The strategic location of Dubai, its safe environment, outstanding infrastructure and world-famous facilities actually adds to the factors that have elevated this city’s status as a hub in terms of medical tourism.


In 2021, Dubai received around 630,000 international health tourists; a DHA report explained this last year. In 2021, by international patients, spending stood at almost Dh730 million, the findings showed.


Dubai and UAE have made themselves as eminent centers in medical tourism.


In the GCC, as the main medical tourism destination the Emirates was positioned, as per the 2021 report published by the US-based Medical Tourism Association.


In particular, the Medical Tourism Index placed Dubai as the number one Arab destination when it comes to medical tourism.
