In 2022, Malta registered 2.3 million visitors

In 2022, the visitor numbers to Malta reached almost 2.3 million, making it 83 per cent of the total existed pre-pandemic times and their busiest ever.


In last year, in terms of volumes, the markets related to Austrian, Polish, Italian and French also surpassed the levels of 2019, as per the SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.


During the same time, as per the Breaking Travel News, the total tourist expenses were calculated around €2.0 billion. The total expenditure per capita, on the other hand, in 2021, dropped to €880 from €899.


Clayton Bartolo, the tourism minister said that sustainability is a requirement not an alternative. Clayton added that they need to understand this principle which means that they have tourists that visit their country all through the year which leaves a positive environmental impact directly, mainly with the decrease in the touristic activity emissions.


Besides, the authorities of Malta calculated that for December 2022, the total number of incoming tourists was 136,423, as the total nights spent reached around 967,108.


Also, last December, for leisure purposes, a total of 117,668 tourists visited Malta and 12,966 tourists had come for business reasons.


Almost 41.2 per cent of incoming tourists fell into the age-group of 25-44 years. It was followed by the 45-64 years age group. Residents of the United Kingdom, Italians and French comprised the largest group of incoming tourists with a total of 43.9 per cent.
