In 2022, Sri Lanka is targeting to attract 10 lakh tourists

On Saturday, the Tourism Minister of Sri Lanka, Harin Fernando, explained that as things revive to its normalcy after experiencing the recent political crisis in the nation, the government of the island in 2022 is set to welcome around 10 lakh tourists, majority of them would be from India. To promote Sri Lanka tourism, Fernando was in Ahmedabad only recently and said that religious and cultural tourism relation between Sri Lanka and India will make a lot of sense in the coming days. He added that lot of commonalities they can find with India, and they think the coming year will be dedicated to India on a maximum basis, Fernando informed the reporters.


By now, Sri Lanka has registered five lakh tourists for 2022, and the nation expects to end the year with 10 lakh more tourists. These tourists are mostly from India, the minister stated.


He also explained that for the country, 2018 was the best year when almost 23 lakh tourists visited the country and generated $4-5 billion revenue for Sri Lanka, he said. Fernando said that from the tourism sector, they have $900 million coming and are expecting that by the end of 2022, they might reach $2 billion mark.


He said that the country expects to end 2022 with almost 10 lakh tourists and with 15-20 lakh tourists next year.
The minister said that so far they have had 75,000 Indian tourists coming to Sri Lanka.
