In 2023, Japan tourism could reach pre-pandemic levels

The World Travel & Tourism Council has recent disclosed that Japan’s Travel & Tourism will provide a major enhancement to the economic recovery of the country in 2023 with its GDP contribution expected to reach the levels of pre-pandemic times.


The prediction from the Economic Impact Report of the WTTC shows that by the end of 2023, the contribution of tourism to the GDP of Japan has a chance to reach almost ¥40 trillion, just 2.2% below the levels of 2019.


Also, the data pinpoints that employment in Japan will exceed pre-pandemic levels. By the end of 2020, the country would recover over 23,000 jobs, to reach over 5.8 million.


Travel & Tourism’s GDP in the next decade is hoped to grow at an average of 2.6% yearly. It would be over three times the 0.7% growth rate for the overall economy of Japan, to reach more than ¥46.7 trillion.


Also, the prediction shows that the tourism over the next decade is hoped to create almost 683,000 jobs. This would be averaging more than 68,000 new jobs every year, to reach 6.2 million employed by the end of 2032.


The report shows that by the end of 2020, the contribution of tourism to GDP is anticipated to grow an astounding 60% to more than ¥36.2 trillion. This would be amounting to 6.5% of the total economic GDP.


In the sector, employment levels are anticipated to increase at a slower rate (1.9%), by the end of 2020.
