In Dalton-Whitefield County, tourism is powerful

Recently, the Dalton Convention & Visitors Bureau has reported that for tourism, 2022 was a record-breaking year in Dalton-Whitfield. A tax that usually visitors pay – the hotel/motel tax collections for 2022, for city and county together was $2,053,899.20.


Margaret Thigpen, director of tourism, said that the collections are used as a measure of their initiations for their community and are utilized to help finance city or county projects, said. Thigpen also added that the highest collections previous to 2022 was 2018 and was $1,816,011. Besides the hotel/motel tax collections, 69 groups selected Dalton-Whitfield for their sport/meeting event, the CVB reported and 8,934 guestroom nights were selected and in marketing grants roughly $66,000 were offered which brought in $6 million in total economic impact.


Thigpen also said that in 2022, their success would not have been attained without the Dalton Convention Center, Dalton Parks and Recreation, and Whitfield County Parks and Recreation.


The 2023 year is well in progress as groups characteristically book six months to a year or two in advance.
