The Tourism minister of Karnataka, Anand Singh, has recently explained that the state government in February 2022 will organize an international tourism expo to attract investments to the sector, which COVID-19 has completely beaten-up.
Singh while sharing his ideas at the World Tourism Day program arranged on Monday at Vidhana Soudha said that the three-day Karnataka International Tourism Expo will be hosted at Palace Grounds. The government is expecting to draw investments to the tune of Rs. 5,000 crore.
While emphasizing that due to the pandemic, the tourism sector has suffered Rs. 25,000 crore losses. Singh explained that in this regard, it would take two years for it to get back. Several measures have been adopted by the government like 50% rebate on property tax for hotels/resorts in addition to cancelling licence fees. Also, for three months from April to June, it waived electricity bills of hotels.
Singh also mentioned that by 2025, the government is set to take the contribution of the tourism sector to the state’s GDP to 20%.
“To facilitate this target, we have already introduced a new policy which hopes to attract another Rs 5,000 crore investment and create 10 lakh jobs. The government has set aside Rs 500 crore to implement the policy by way of disbursing sops,” he added.
