In February 2023, Sri Lanka drew US$ 169.9 million from the tourism trade.

It’s slightly higher from US$ 169.4 million in the same time 2022.

This year, the tourism sector of Sri Lanka got off to an encouraging kick-start with more than 210,000 tourists coming to the country in the initial two months of 2023, attracting an increasing US$ 331.7 million in earnings from the trade.

In 2020 and 2021 from tourism, Sri Lanka lost US$ 9.0 billion due to the pandemic. This contributed to the foreign currency crisis directly which the island had to face.

For the industry, the future prospects remain brilliant as the rush in numbers is increasing every week.

Data emphasized that in the first week of March, Sri Lanka had received more than 30,000 tourists alone with visitors from China returning to the top 10 source markets.

In the first week of January, China reopened its borders after three years of closedown and lockdown measures.
