In the first six months of 2022, over 10.2 million foreign tourists flew into Mexico. This was an 83% rise compared to the first half of 2021 and a 1.5% upward trend compared to the same time 2019.

As per the report of the federal Tourism Ministry, the arrival of around 10.27 million foreign tourists was witnessed at the airports of the country between January and June.

Exceeding the levels of 2019 in January to June, with just under 10.12 million is particularly important for tourism, which was immensely impacted by the pandemic and related impediments even though Mexico never stopped the entry of foreign travelers as part of measures to contain the spread of the virus.

Sectur while citing the data of Interior Ministry said that 6.66 million tourists from the United States flew into Mexico in the first half of 2022. This was a figure that accounts for 65% of all air arrivals from foreign countries. The arrivals from the U.S. went up 50.5% compared to the same time 2021 and 19.1% higher than in 2019.

With around 860,000 tourists, between January and June, Canada provided the second highest number of visitors from that country touching Mexican soil. It’s a whopping rise of 1,443% compared to the same period of 2021.

The rise is so high because tourism from Canada shrank early 2021 after the government of Canada signed a contract with the main Canadian airlines in late January 2021 to call off flights to Mexico and Caribbean countries, temporarily, due to the pandemic.
