Even though the peak summer season is coming to an end, the wish to explore new places remain strong across Europe. 66 per cent of Europeans plan trips through March 2022. Increasing confidence on when, where, and how to travel however shows a positive tourism outlook for the months to come. This is according to the recent research on ‘Monitoring Sentiment for Domestic and Intra-European Travel – Wave 9’1 by the European Travel Commission (ETC), which provides timely insights on Europeans’2 short-term travel intentions and preferences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since October 2020, for the first time, the travel plans of the Europeans are consistent for the next six months: 26 per cent are selecting trips between October and November, 28 per cent between December 2021 and January 2022, and 25 per cent will travel in February and March 2022. These results pin point the fact that an increasing number of Europeans doesn’t want to be in a ‘waiting mode’ mind set to travel and feel confident to go on board on spontaneous trips.

As travel sentiment continues to get better with time and restrictions related to pandemic become the new normal, ‘travel-ready’ Europeans are quite strong-minded to stick on to their travel plans (up 39 per cent over the previous survey), rather than wait or postpone.
