Of late, the young brigades of Tino village located under Kolang panchayat in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti are advertising and promoting agro tourism in order to sustain their finances.
At Gaimur village, they have started agro tourism, where they have created camps for the tourists to stay. They also have plans to expand the concept all over the district in the forthcoming days.
The tourists while they stay are allowed to collect the produces of the farm like organic vegetables from the nearby farmland for kitchen purpose. The main intention is to provide them with the first-hand impression of agricultural produce harvesting and self-cooking under the plan of agro tourism. Likewise, in the sowing season, the tourists will be permitted to experience sowing of agriculture crops.
These young populations are promoting organic agro tourism with a target to attract tourists to Lahaul Spiti. In their lands, they have grown exotic vegetables to attract the tourists, which is purely the organic produce.
They are planning to set up mini hydel projects in their next phase in the nearby camping site to provide electricity to all the mud houses. These mud houses will be set up for the tourists to stay amid nature.
To quote Tashi Angroop, a youth of Tino village, told The Tribune, “We are a group of 20 youths, who are engaged in promotion of agro tourism. As an experiment, we have set up camping sites at Gaimur. We are providing an opportunity to tourists to have an experience from sowing to harvesting of agricultural produce, in whichever season they come.”
“Apart from this, we are planning to construct mud houses at Tino village to promote cottage tourism. Two mini hydel projects will be set up at the village to meet the demand of power supply for heating and lighting,” said another youth Tanzin Angdee.
