Malaysia is one of the last countries in Asia that is yet to reopen its international borders. However, in March, it’s all set to reopen its borders once again. Malaysia’s recovery panel related to coronavirus has recently suggested a full reopening of its borders as early as March 1st without requirement of quarantine for travelers.

This reopening is part of a plan that is expected to perk up the economic recovery of the country. Since March 2020, Malaysia has shut down its borders. The news comes at a time when Thailand, The Philippines, and Singapore waived off quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated tourists.

Malaysia’s New Entry Requirements:
Even though the government of Malaysia is yet to unveil the information related to the reopening date, reports point out that travelers will have to go through screening before departure and on arrival.

To quote Muhyiddin Yassin, a former chairperson of Malaysia’s National Recovery Council (NRC), “This means tourists can visit, investors can enter… It means AirAsia (AIRA.KL) can fly again, as an example,”

In 2021, Malaysia reopened a Langkawi travel bubble however, entry requirements were severe. And because of this, very few travellers in 2021 visited Malaysia.

The Current COVID-19 Situation In Malaysia:
In recent weeks, Malaysia has recorded record cases of COVID-19. The current 7-day case average is 10,610. Nevertheless, Malaysia has got fully vaccinated with 98% of its entire adult population; in world, this is one of the highest vaccine take-ups so far.

At present, Malaysia has internal restrictions. At this moment, a movement control order is in place where people can’t freely move around in Malaysia.

However, some states have lessened their restrictions as they move into the National COVID Recovery Plan.
In airports and public transport, travelers must wear a face mask. There is a mandate in terms of social distancing of 1 meter. To enter many facilities, they’ll take a test of your temperature before you enter; this includes shops, cinemas, tourist destinations, and cinemas.
