On Monday, Union Minister for Tourism, G K Reddy, explained that in the first six months of the year 2022, around 1.05 crore tourists have visited Jammu and Kashmir. The Union Minister, while answering to a question by Mala Roy in Lok Sabha, stated that tourism in J&K is one of the core sectors of economy.
He said that due to the efforts adopted by the J&K Government in private and Government sectors there has been a major increase in the number of tourists in spite of the challenges posed by Covid.
The tourist footfall in the year 2020 was around 41267. During the first six months, this has risen to 1.05 crores of the calendar year 2022.
Reddy said that J&K has witnessed inflow of tourists in all the seasons and the tourists were all well paid, who are well aware of a good experience of quality services.
He also mentioned that this huge rush of tourists has profited the local population directly and indirectly, including the people who are living far off.
