Melaka is spellbound by the idea of community-based tourism in Sabah and is keen to find out more about this Malaysian state.
Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, the State Assistant Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister, explained that Sabah in the rural areas had over 300 community-based operators.
In tourism promotion, both Sabah and Melaka could nicely balance each other. This was explained recently by Datuk at the seminar on “Tourism Revitalisation and Business Matching” which was organized today at a hotel.
Sabah is renowned for its rural community and eco tourism while Melaka is known for its heritage and culture based tourism.
The diversity of this unique tourism product is sufficient to exhibit what Sabah can offer which Melaka couldn’t, and vice versa. Both of these Malaysian states are enlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage list as well, with Melaka selected as a World Heritage City by UNESCO and the Kinabalu Park chosen as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Datuk said that he believes that these two states of Malaysia have complementary products related to tourism.
We all should work in tandem to showcase the matchlessness of Malaysia’s tourism products and help in reviving the tourism activities of teh country in general, said Sabah Tourism Board chairman, Joniston.
Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis, Melaka Tourism, Heritage and Culture Committee chairman, who introduced the event, stated that tourism which is community-based was a new product for Melaka.
