India helps Sri Lanka to boost its tourism

In Sri Lanka, a new luxury train service has been introduced. It would connect the Jaffna district with Colombo. The service has been started with the help of India in the form of a Line of Credit, marking a significant landmark in the strategic and cooperation relationship between the two countries. As per a recent report of PTI, on Sunday, the train was launched. It would be covering about 386 kms, going from Mount Lavinia suburb in Colombo to Kankesanthurai port suburb in the Tamil-dominated district of Jaffna.


This launch of this intercity rail service was emphasized by the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka. There it was said that the development highlighted two crucial feature of the development-oriented partnership of India with Sri Lanka, the country-wide focus on infrastructure development.


As part of the loan facility, India provided Sri Lanka with AC DMUs or AC Diesel Multiple Units. Pavithra Wanniarachchi, the Minister of Transport of Sri Lanka was present during the inaugural ride ceremony. At the Colombo Fort Station, she was welcomed by Vinod K Jacob, India’s Deputy High Commissioner.
