Wellness tourism in India is now fast growing and India ranked 12th in global wellness tourism map.
This global wellness tourism market is dominated by the countries like United States, Germany, China, Japan, India and France. Chennai is hub of Ayurvedic spas and hospitals and stands as an epitome of alternative medical culture. Previously India ranked 14th and now India is among the top 20 tourism market as per the research.
An increase in awareness levels in Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Siddha diet and treatment are influencing the national and international visitors to have a weekend visit in the Ayurvedic spas and hospitals and the nearby destinations.
India is accounting with 4,734 spas, providing direct and indirect employment to 55,862 with earning revenue of $1.46 billion. Here the international wellness tourism is speeding up from 2013-2015 economical years. The wellness tourism in India especially Tamil Nadu is dominated by national and international tourists accounting 20% and 17% respectively, while 22% is grown in trips. Tamil Nadu and the other south Indian states are developed with medical and wellness tourism and it is grown faster in coming years.
There is a fact that the global Yoga market is estimated around $80 billion in Indian tertiary industry. The wellness market in India had an annual turnover of $13 billion in 2015. Now it is expecting that to reach about $ 23 billion by 2020, which will be the highest count and can easily be competent with other countries.
