There needs to be a tourism policy in India so that the sector, which has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, can speed up its revival process, said the Union Minister of Tourism, G. Kishan Reddy, at the second edition of Travel, Tourism & Hospitality E-Conclave organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
“I’ve met a number of sector representatives, delegates, associations, and organizations in the last 10 days. We think there should be a tourism policy in India. The tourism sector is not in the state or central government list. We are also considering whether or not it should be in the concurrent list. I’m requesting everybody to participate in preparing the new national tourism policy,” said Reddy.
Once this policy comes into existence, it will be principally helpful for all industry stakeholders, said the minister.
“Through this policy, we can get proper responses, investments, and support from village gram panchayats and town municipalities. We can see that the tourism sector is one of the major sectors in India for economic growth and employment generation,” Reddy added.
Industry stakeholders need to be vigilant about what is going on in different countries, especially the tourism-dependent countries, regarding the measures they are taking and see what kind of measures India can take, said the Union Minister.
