India reopens to fully vaccinated foreign travelers

India recently reopened to fully vaccinated foreign travelers coming on chartered flights. This move is due to the easing of corona-related restrictions, with COVID infections exhibiting a decline in the country.

Foreign travelers coming via regular flights will be able to enter India from November 15. This is the first time since March 2020 when nationwidecoronavirus lockdown was imposed, that India is allowing foreign tourists to enter the country. However, it is yet to be known whether these travelers will have to go through quarantine, but they will be required to be fully vaccinated, and test negative for the virus within 72 hours of their flight.

This was announced by India’s Home Ministry earlier this month, with daily infections dropping below 20000 from a peak of 400000 in May, with more and more people getting vaccinated each day. India has managed to administer more than 970 million vaccine doses till now. Around 70 per cent of the adult population has received at least one dose of vaccine. Easing of travel restrictions on foreign tourists also coincides with India’s domestic tourist and festive season. However, health officials have warned against any kind of complacency.
