India is the second ranked country for the Maldives regarding tourist numbers

The Maldives Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed said that tourist arrivals from India would double by the end of this year. Ali Waheed stated that the Maldives’ popularity as a tourist destination among Indians is due to its serene environment.

 

India recently ranked the second country from where the Maldives attracted the greatest number of tourists. A total of 82,140 Indian holidaymakers travelled to the Maldives from January to June. In 2018, the number of tourists from India was 90,474.

 

Minister Waheed also spoke about the strengthening of historic ties between the two nations and revealed that the Indian tourism minister is officially invited to visit the Maldives.

 

Furthermore, Ali Waheed said that discussions were going on with the Indian government to host ceremonies like the Filmfare Awards in the Maldives. He stressed that such events would promote the country further.

 

Minister Waheed also said that the right markets in India need to be targeted in order to increase tourist arrivals. He also spoke about the importance of increasing the number of flights to Maldives from certain states of India.
