Gartang Gali, Uttarkashi’s historic wooden bridge is based at a height of 11000 ft in Nelong Valley in Uttarakhand. Now, it’s open for the public. For the adventure lovers, Uttarakhand state Government has opened the Gartang Gali trek; it’s situated close to the Indo-China border and is a 500 m long stairway.

The wooden bridge was constructed here in traditional style as per the reports. By cutting through a single rock it was made. When on the bridge, one can see the breathtaking views of the spectacular Nelong Valley along with the flora and fauna surrounding the area. Also, reports show that the district administration will permit only 10 tourists to visit the bridge at a time, keeping in mind the Corona guidelines.

It was considered to have been set up by the Peshawar Pathans, Gartang Gali for many years was a trade route between Tibet and India . After the Indo-China war in 1962, for tourists, the area was declared as off-limits thereby the bridge also lost its tourist spot status.

Satpal Maharaj, Uttarakhand Tourism Minister, stated while explaining that the reopening of this trek route will add a new dimension to Uttarakhand’s adventure tourism activities.
