Indian tourists to the Maldives increases by double

Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) statistics showed that the number of Indian tourist arrivals have increased by double, compared to the same period in 2018.


As per MMA statistics, 66,265 Indian tourists visited the Maldives by the end of May this year as compared to 33,734 having visited in May 2018.


Ministry of Tourism and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) are working towards increasing Indian tourist arrivals to the Maldives.


Previously, MMPRC held a roadshow in India under the title ‘Journey to the Sunny Side’. Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed, urged Indian television and movie stars to further endorse Maldives.


Chinese tourists comprised the largest number of tourists to Maldives up till May with 116,282 visitors. However, most visitors were from Italy and India.
