India’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has made a significant leap in 2025, surpassing all previous records by handling a staggering fifty-five point five million passengers, a remarkable achievement that solidifies its position as a dominant force in global aviation. This milestone not only highlights the airport’s continuous growth and increasing demand on both domestic and international routes but also reflects the airport’s capacity to manage high passenger volumes efficiently. With new routes, expanded services, and consistent operational excellence, CSMIA has cemented itself as a vital hub in India, linking the nation to the world while catering to the rising needs of travelers.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) concluded 2025 on an impressive note, achieving its highest-ever annual passenger traffic of approximately 55.5 million. This landmark achievement is a testament to the steady growth and rising demand on both domestic and international routes, positioning CSMIA as one of India’s busiest and most significant aviation hubs.

The total passenger traffic in 2025 included 16.3 million international passengers and 39.2 million domestic travelers. The overall increase represents a modest 1.3 percent growth compared to the 54.8 million passengers recorded in 2024. More notably, the airport saw a stronger 7.6 percent increase when compared to 2023. These figures underscore CSMIA’s continued development and its central role in the Indian aviation ecosystem.
The airport’s growth trajectory was evident from the very start of the year, with January 2025 setting a new record for the highest number of passengers in a single month, almost reaching 5 million. November 2025 also marked a major milestone, with the airport handling around 4.9 million passengers, further solidifying the robust demand for air travel through CSMIA. In addition to monthly records, the airport recorded its highest-ever single-day traffic on November 29, 2025, handling 175,925 passengers. The final quarter of 2025, from October to December, was particularly strong, with CSMIA accommodating a total of 14.36 million passengers, further bolstering its standing as a key global air transport hub.

CSMIA’s operational efficiency was also demonstrated through air traffic movements (ATMs), with a total of 331,011 movements in 2025. This figure includes 92,141 international ATMs and 238,870 domestic movements. The growth rate was impressive, marking a 25 percent increase over 2022. Notably, the highest single-day ATM count occurred on November 21, 2025, with 1,036 movements, further reflecting the growing demand for air travel and CSMIA’s capacity to handle the surge in traffic.
A key contributor to this success was the expansion of CSMIA’s network, both internationally and domestically. The airport launched new international routes to destinations like Almaty, Amman, Bali (Denpasar), Copenhagen, Fujairah, Krabi, Manchester, and Tbilisi. These new services helped connect Mumbai to various global markets and support growing demand for international travel. Domestically, CSMIA also expanded its network, adding new routes to Adampur, Amravati, Hindon, Jharsuguda, Porbandar, and Solapur. These additions further strengthened the airport’s national connectivity, providing passengers with more options for travel within India.

Internationally, Dubai continued to be the leading destination from CSMIA, capturing a 15 percent market share. Other key international destinations included London Heathrow and Abu Dhabi, both of which secured a 7.5 percent market share each. Domestically, Delhi remained the most popular route from CSMIA, holding a 17 percent share of the market. Bengaluru and Goa followed, with market shares of 10 percent and 6 percent, respectively. The Middle East continued to dominate international traffic, accounting for nearly half (48.8 percent) of the total passenger volume, while Asia-Pacific and Europe represented 28.2 percent and 14.5 percent of the traffic.
CSMIA’s passenger traffic growth was also bolstered by the strong performance of leading airlines operating from the airport. IndiGo, Air India, and Emirates were the top carriers for international traffic, while IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa Air were the dominant players in the domestic segment. These airlines helped to fuel CSMIA’s impressive performance by increasing their flight frequencies and expanding their reach to new destinations.
Digital advancements and a strong focus on enhancing the passenger experience also played a significant role in CSMIA’s success. The airport has continuously adopted cutting-edge technology to streamline processes such as check-in, security, and baggage handling, making travel more efficient and convenient for passengers. Furthermore, CSMIA’s focus on offering a range of services tailored to meet the needs of both international and domestic travelers has further strengthened its position as a key gateway to India and the world.
India’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport achieved a historic milestone in 2025, handling fifty-five point five million passengers, reinforcing its status as a leading global aviation hub. This record underscores the airport’s continued growth and its vital role in connecting India to the world.
Looking forward, CSMIA is well-positioned to continue its growth and maintain its status as one of India’s busiest and most efficient airports. With a passenger-centric approach and an unwavering commitment to infrastructure development, the airport is set to further enhance its global connectivity, providing passengers with unparalleled access to destinations across the globe. As air travel demand continues to rise, CSMIA’s strategic expansions, operational excellence, and technological advancements will ensure it remains at the forefront of the aviation industry in India and beyond.
