Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said the 2022 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) event in Bali Province is a momentum to promote Indonesian tourism.

The government would invite delegations from 193 countries to visit tourist destinations and enjoy some cultural attractions, Effendy said in a statement here on Sunday..

“There will be cultural exhibition which is a part of GPDRR side events initiated and managed by the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry,” he stated.

The minister has reviewed the international arrival terminal of I GustiNgurah Rai Airport, visited a number of prospective venues for the event in Nusa Dua, and chaired a coordination meeting on Friday (Jan 28).

On Saturday (Jan 29), he reviewed the preparations in Garuda WisnuKencana Cultural Park and LuhurUluwatu Temple in Badung District, Bali Province. Both tourist destinations would be visited by four to five thousand delegates of the international forum.

“Moreover, there will be various cultural performances which have been well known internationally, such as the Kecak Dance,” he continued.

Effendy admired the Garuda WisnuKencana Cultural Park which he called as a landmark of Indonesia’s great culture and tourism.

“It is very amazing. It shows how noble Indonesian culture is, especially the ones developed in Bali. I think it is the most monumental work in contemporary Indonesian history,” Effendy remarked.

Furthermore, he admired the charm of LuhurUluwatu Temple which has been well-preserved by the local community.

“It is a hundreds-years old ritual centre. It has been preserved for generations by the local community,” he noted.

The GPDRR is a biennial forum initiated by United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) to strengthen global collaboration on disaster mitigation.

The international forum, which will be held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre from May 23 to May 28, 2022, will be attended by about four to five thousand participants.
