Indonesia’s Tourism and Creative Economy Minister, Wishnutama Kusubandio, has recently emphasized the significance of understanding the ecosystem of tourism and the creative economy in general to set up a flourishing creative business sector. This was conveyed by the minister while attending a face-to-face and virtual national coordination meeting on Nov. 6th of the Indonesia Creative Cities Network in Banyuwangi, East Java.
ICCN is a cross-creative community forum network. It aims to make sure creativity propels development of municipalities / regencies in Indonesia.
ICCN was established in 2015 and currently has network in over 200 municipalities / regencies all over Indonesia. The 2020 ICCN meeting was organized from Nov. 5th to 7th, participated by 50 regional ICCN coordinators from 211 municipalities / regencies with hundreds of other online members. Also, the event was attended by Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas and ICCN chairman Fiki Satari.
Minister Wishnutama mentioned that understanding the tourism and creative economy (parekraf) ecosystem was important, particularly in the digital age. According to the minister, creative actors should not only depend on the knowledge of their products but should also understand how to market them to the world. “A product may be good, but if we can’t sell it, we may miss the opportunity. This is our challenge for the future that we all must understand the parekraf ecosystem,” he said.
The ecosystem comprises how to package products, market, understand the rules, intellectual property rights, access to capital and master technology, said the minister. “That is what we call the entire parekraf ecosystem.
Creative businesspeople must understand comprehensively from A to Z, in order to create attractiveness and monetize so that the potential for greater success is in store,” he said.
Also, he said that creative economy’s role was very important in developing national tourism.
