Information hub Opens in Dawlish to Keep Community Updated as Vital Sea Wall Upgrade Gets Underway

Published on : Wednesday, June 5, 2019

Network RailNetwork Rail has opened the doors to a new community information hub in Dawlish which will provide regular updates on how work to deliver a bigger sea wall is progressing.

Work started on the new sea wall on 1 June and once complete it will provide greater protection to the railway and town from rising sea levels and extreme weather for generations to come.

To keep the Dawlish community updated Network Rail has opened a community information hub which will be located at Colonnade underpass, near to the station, throughout the nine-month project.

The hub will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 2pm for residents to receive regular updates with Network Rail staff on hand to answer questions or discuss the project.

The hub will also be available for appointments with Network Rail staff outside of the advertised opening hours.

David Lovell, Network Rail senior programme manager for the Dawlish sea wall project, said: “Keeping the community updated with how work is progressing is absolutely vital to us.

“We understand we are working in their community and we want them to be well informed as we deliver this vital upgrade that will help not only protect the railway but also the town.

“The hub will be open regularly with staff guaranteed to be on hand to answer any question or to discuss the project on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am-2pm.”

Anne Marie Morris MP, for Newton Abbot, said: “I am glad to see that the first steps to deliver the Rail Resilience Programme – which is so crucial for our local economy – are getting underway at Dawlish.

“Network Rail have listened to residents during the consultation and have amended their design to address concerns as much as they can without compromising the effectiveness of the sea defence.

“An information point at Dawlish will enable residents to further discuss any ongoing concerns or questions which they may have during this important project.”
