InterContinental Hong Kong will soon undergo the biggest renovation in its 30 years of operations. The hotel is set to reopen as Regent Hong Kong in 2022. The current hotel would close its doors for renovation on April 20th 2020.

The brand new renovation plan will provide the hotel with a stunning transformation. The hotel is expected to stand as one of the top hotels not only in Asia but also as one of the world’s most iconic hotels post-renovation.

The complete renovation will span all guest rooms and suites. It would also include bathrooms, restaurants, event venues and all public areas. The building façade will also be refreshed with a contemporary new look.

However, the hotel’s 1-Michelin star Cantonese restaurant, Yan Toh Heen, will remain open throughout the renovation period. The restaurant can be accessed via the adjoining K11 Musea.

Chi Wing Lo has been appointed as the architect or designer after a global lookout for a design visionary. He will be responsible for the flagship property’s major transformation and re-opening as Regent Hong Kong.

InterContinental Hong Kong is recognised as one of the world’s leading hotels. The 503-room InterContinental Hong Kong opened in 1980 as Regent Hong Kong. It was owned by IHG up to 2015 and has operated under the InterContinental brand since 2001. In 2018, IHG acquired a majority stake in Regent Hotels and Resorts. Ever since the two hospitality giants have been working together with the owners to renovate the hotel and reopen the property as Regent Hong Kong.

Gaw Capital Partners led the acquisition of the hotel in 2015 on behalf of a consortium of investors. Goodwin Gaw, Chairman, and Managing Principal, Gaw Capital Partners said in a statement that the company is excited to work with internationally experienced Chi Wing Lo. He mentioned that Wing Lo’s designs combine superb craftsmanship and ingenuity with innovative use of materials and a unique and timeless aesthetic.

He further added that the company is committed to returning the property back to its glory days as one of the most prestigious hotels in the world. He mentioned that following striking transformation and rebranding, the hotel becomes an iconic flagship property for Regent Hotels & Resorts yet again.

Meanwhile, after the closure of InterContinental Hong Kong, its colleagues will be supported with opportunities within IHG properties. They will also be an opportunity and priority to re-join the hotel when it re-opens after rebranding.
