The southern seaside city of Larnaca, which hosts one of Cyprus’s two international airports, expects to boost its tourism with the arrival in town of another big international hotel group, Indigo of the InterContinental Hotels Group, the Larnaca Tourism Board (Etap).

The Hotel Indigo Cyprus-Larnaca is the first unit this hotel colossus will operate in Cyprus,” Etap said in a statement.

It added that the development of this new “quality tourist facility” coincides with its own goal to preserve and highlight Larnaca’s special character by utilizing the town’s listed buildings. It is said that the new hotel will be combining the development of an old residence with a new building.

Indigo, one of the biggest boutique hotel chains in the world, is the third hotel chain to express interest in Larnaca following the arrival of hotels by Radisson Blu and Best Western brands.

Larnaca has entered for good the tourism game by attracting the interest of both investors and travel agents.

Over the last three years, nine new hotel units have been built in the Larnaca district with a total capacity of 614 beds. In 2020, at least seven new units are expected to operate, mainly within the limits of Larnaca Municipality and the nearby Oroklini suburb.
