International tourists wouldn’t be able visit Australia until next year, and the return of skilled migrants and students would be given more priority, the Prime Minister said on October 5.

Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison said thatthe country was expected to reach the vaccination benchmark on October 5, following which it was planning to reopen.

Last week, Morrison outlined plans to allow vaccinated citizens and permanent residents to fly overseas from November for the first time since a very tough travel ban was in effect from March last year.

However,on October 5 Morrison said that after Australians, the next importance would be given to skilled migrants and international students entering Australia before tourists.

Australian immigration has been at its lowest since World War II due to pandemic restrictions. The pandemic has also created a disastrous effect on Australian universities relyingprofoundly on fees paid by international students. The education sector is apprehensive that students will enroll in other countries if Australia does not open its border anytime soon.
