From the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation, new data shows that in March 2022, the sector continued to revive. Traditionally, it’s the time when tourism kick-starts with the Saint Patrick’s Festival.

The Irish Tourism Industry Confederation’s Tourism Dashboard is published in collaboration with AIB. They make a comparison of each month to the same month in 2019, the last year which can be called normal for the Irish tourism.
Using carrier and port data ITIC extrapolates inbound visitor numbers by market based on past performance. According to today’s statistics, the country was 31% lower in the month when compared to the time during pre-pandemic months of 2019. However, that’s a smaller gap than what was seen earlier.

North American traffic continued to lag and is still down 45% on 2019 levels.

As per the CEO of ITIC, Eoghan O’Mara Walsh, the March data shows the major rising that Ireland’s tourism and hospitality industry faced.

“Air access is positive for the summer so overall in 2022 we are hoping for a 60% recovery in inbound tourism numbers compared to 2019 which would be no mean feat considering the mauling that the industry has faced in the last two years,” he added.
