ITB Berlin 2022: Opening Press Conference

Press conferences and live streaming

With high-ranking figures from Messe Berlin, Georgia, Statista Q and the German Travel Association will host the opening press conference of ITB Berlin 2022 that will be live-streamed parallel convention track from 8 to 10 March.



The three-day virtual ITB Berlin Convention, which for the first time is taking place from Tuesday to Thursday from 8th March.

Key topics like resilience, digitalisation and sustainability will be discussed.



On 17 March the Digital Business Day will be organized featuring numerous networking opportunities for buyers and providers.


Also a new series of B2B networking events around Europe will round off the format.

Opening Ceremony

Katie Gallus from the Messe Berlin studio on the exhibition grounds from Tuesday, 8 March at 9 a.m. that will be live-streamed along with other convention events.


The CEO of Messe Berlin, Martin Ecknig will open the convention and preview the highlights planned for this year’s ITB Berlin. H.E. Prof. Dr. Levan Izoria, the Georgian ambassador, will tell the attendees first-hand about the show’s cultural destination Georgia.


The German Travel Association’s (DRV)president Norbert Fiebig will discuss the conflict between the pandemic on the one hand and the increasingly urgent need for sustainability on the other.

Statista Q’s MD Peter Kautz, will discuss how the pandemic will likely change the travel industry’s fortunes as well as customer expectations in the future.

Day1: Enjoy culture, experience nature, stay curious


Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which is planning to become Germany’s number one destination for family holidays, will kick off day 1.

Sarawak Travel Chat of Malaysia also will present in the seminar.

National park Hohe Tauern, a the holiday destination, will present the national park’s summer programme for 2022. Tourismus NRW, will present ‘Location: City: Destination – Towards an Ecosystem of Hospitality’. Christian Leetz, chief editor of Tourismus News Deutschland, will moderate the session.

Dr. Heike Döll-König, CEO of Tourismus NRW and Prof. Dr. Harald Pechlaner, professor of Tourism Studies and head of the Centre for Entrepreneurship will be present at the session.

DZT innovation manager Olaf Schlieper, will also moderate an event. Also the German National Tourist Board, will discuss about the role of digital communications to promote eco-aware and climate-friendly tourism.

An event entitled ’Enjoy culture, experience nature, stay curious’, will be hosted by Thüringen Tourismus.

Paraguay will promote itself as the soul of South America. Stayntouch, a hotel management platform will present how mobile technology is helping to increase visitor participation and operational efficiency.

Finally at the press conference, the co-founder of the startup DynAmaze, Pétur Müller, will discuss the effects of dynamic pricing on the leisure and tourism industry.

Day2: TO DO Awards and promote tourist destinations

Saxony-Anhalt, a German federal state, will present its UNESCO World Heritage Site. North Rhine-Westphalia will illustrate the city’s break’s from cool to classic.

PayPal will present the 2022 Travel Compass, will explain how changing demand, booking patterns and payment methods are influencing the German holiday travel market.

Agencia Catalana de Tourismo will promote Barcelona as a medical destination, and the Balearics will look at “new tourism“ in the age of the pandemic.

The presentation of the TO DO Awards that will be co-sponsored by ITB Berlin and honour outstanding examples of social commitment in the industry.

Presentations and press conferences will also be hosted by this year’s cultural destination Georgia, the German National Tourist Board, Turkey, South Africa and the Berlin-based company Profitroom, which will show how to make the most of converting hotels and resorts.

Medical tourism advisor to ITB Berlin, Thomas Bömkes will be examining the challenges and solutions in medical tourism and CSR commissioner for ITB, Rika Jean-Francois, present the ITB HNE Travel Entrepreneurship Competition awards.

3rd Day: The Final Day

The 3rd day will be kicked off by Saxony-Anhalt, will offer inspiration for the upcoming travel season. XPRO, a B2B marketplace for experience technologies, products and services, a Berlin-based company will discuss travel experience as a new status symbol.

South Africa, Paraguay and the Chinese region of Huangshan with its mountain peak Mt. Huangshan, will present themselves as popular destinations. VisitScotland, the Slovenian Tourist Board, the DZT and the Balearics will be represented at the ITB Berlin Convention on the last day of the show.
