Jamaica to host 65th UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas meeting

The 65th UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas meeting will be held in Jamaica. This was revealed during the recently held 64th meeting held in Guatemala from 15 to 16 May.

 

During the meeting, it was also decided by the United Nations Regional Commission for the Americas that the destination of the next Tourism Day in 2020 will be in South America, in order to demonstrate the spirit of cooperation, especially among the countries of Mercosur.

 

Foz do Iguaçu was among the cities cited as a candidate to host actions of the date.

 

The 65th UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas meeting emphasized on improving air connectivity through a more competitive market.

 

Cooperation between countries for the development of tourism was also at the heart of the discussions.

 

According to the Secretary General of the WTO, Zurab Pololikashvili, the objective of the meeting is to improve services, the stay of tourists, and more importantly, generate new jobs.

 

“The best way to grow quickly and with new jobs is through tourism,” said Pololikashvili.
