Jamaica tourism minister hopeful about tourism growth

Jamaica Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, has expressed his enthusiasm concerning growth prospects in the country’s tourism segment.He emphasized the fact that this is the largest and finest winter seasonthat Jamaica ever witnessed in the history of tourism.He added that the tourism segment ison its way to continue the prosperity which is now being witnessed.


Bartlettsaid that for January to March this year, it is projected that Jamaica greeted 1.18 million visitors, which signifiesprogress of 94.4% compared to the equivalenttimelast year. This signifiesincomes of US$1.15 billion, which is 46.4% beyond the US$786.8 million nettedduring the same period last year.


Evaluating the performance of the tourism segment while launching the Sectoral Debate in the Parliament, Minister Bartlett said thatentrances for 2022 increased by 117% and incomes by 71.4% compared to 2021. Jamaica witnessed 3.3 million visitors, earning an assessed US$3.7 billion last year.Estimations for 2024 are US$4.1 billion in incomes.


Minister Bartlett added that real gross domestic product (GDP) for Jamaica’s financial sector is anticipated to increase within the range of 3.0% to 5.0%, when January – March this yearis taken into account, compared to the same period last year. This progress is predictable to be led by robustshows by the hotels and restaurants, as well as the mining and quarrying trades.
